About Me
Experience and QualificationsI am a fully qualified Psychotherapist and Counsellor, with an Advanced Diploma and MA in Integrative Psychotherapy. I am registered with the UKCP and a member of the BACP. I trained as a psychotherapist at The Minster Centre Integrative Psychotherapy and Counselling Training
In addition to private practice I have worked as a counsellor and psychotherapist in various NHS outpatients settings, including GP surgeries and hospital psychotherapy services.
I am also experienced in working as a therapist in specialised areas of domestic abuse, anger management and counselling for relationships that are in crisis or have broken down.
As well as my training as a psychotherapist, I have worked for many years in various mental health settings, so I am very used to helping people who are in emotional crisis or who are living with a mental health condition.
I am a lecturer and supervisor for the Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling and the MA / Post-Graduate Diploma in Contemporary Therapeutic Counselling at The University of Hertfordshire, and visiting lecturer at The Minster Centre Integrative Psychotherapy Training.
How I Work
I take an integrative approach to therapy. This means that I explore the relationship between thoughts, feelings and physical experience, focusing particularly on the links between the past and the present.
Painful or difficult feelings, repeated patterns of behaviour or troubled relationships will often have their origins in past experiences, but it is sometimes difficult to make the connection or to understand why these difficulties continue to affect our lives.
In our work together you will develop a deeper understanding of how your past relationships and experiences continue to influence and affect you. This understanding can help in processing of thoughts, feelings, beliefs and behaviours, enabling you to make positive and lasting change.
When considering working with a psychotherapist or counsellor, it is important to confirm that they are members of a recognised governing body. This ensures they have sufficient training and expertise, and are professionally and ethically accountable. I am a member of the UK's two main governing bodies, the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (bacp), and the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (ukcp), with whom I am professionally registered as a psychotherapist.
